The holiday blues are coming to town

Mimzy started this conversation
Feeling the Holiday Blues starting to creep up on me. What with the financial issues, bills and not having enough to do much of anything - I'm still worried about those out there that are doing worse.
Getting some things together to give out some children books, toys and clothes to a few people I met online. I can't do much for my own, but maybe I can offer something for someone else.

But low energy hasn't been helping me get the boxes and bags packed up very fast. After budgeting in the bills from the income, I'm still $213 short every month - there just isn't enough funds coming in. That's why we'd been scrapping.
But with the cooler weather it's getting to be a challenge finding cans in our area. Drinkers are looking for someplace warm to drink, not stand around outside any more.

I've been working on the cooking site, but I'm stuck at the moment due to not having the money to pay for hosting. I'm going to have to figure out a way to set it up for free. Then see if I can get visitors to subscribe to it or to donate funds for the hosting. I'm having a hard time with setting up the database for the recipes since I only have free hosting.

Maybe a few days and I'll feel better. Just feel rather numb, distant and disconnected.
Hope all find some assistance in these hard times...

in response to Starshine...   Don't you worry about me getting food, I've lived on the streets and believe me I've had it worse than now. Granted, they lock the garbage bins now so there's no popping over to grab some "expired" snacks or such. Sometimes that stuff isn't truly expired, they just can't sell it after that date.

But I've always been able to find a way to make something out of nearly nothing, so I figure we can still make a go of it... it's not going to be a normal meal...but as long as it makes you have a warm, full tummy - then at least it's good for a few...

Friend told me to put a donation thing on my website so I put two there just in case anyone wanted to go ahead and drop a few coppers into the box...so to speak.

I'm beginning to wonder if I should or should not try to do a video like some pals keep telling me to. My issue is that I can't just turn it on or off like a switch...I have my moments and if there's nothing to capture it, then it's gone. I've actually had to be careful with some pals trying to record me when I get on one of my rants. He admitted he wanted to swipe the material since I wasn't using it. I told him he'd have to pay for it like anyone else...lol

I may be generous, but my words aren't public domain. lol Especially in this economy, I'm running out of stuff to sell...if I can get five cents a word I'm not about to let him run off with about $50 worth.

With everyone making videos, the only thing that is really holding me back is that I'm not too crazy about being in front of the camera. I give full kudos to Susan Boyle for having the nerve to get up in front of that many people live and not have a heart attack. The ol' girl even got cheeky which was brilliant and I loved it. But then she was holding an ace they didn't know about - she knew she could sing!

If there was a place to do stand up locally, I don't know if I could even take the chance. Frankly, with my knee and back, I figure I'll sit down and the audience can stand up...switch it up a bit. While I'm at it let's see if they can make me laugh.

Well, I better get moving - my sis just showed up and she's not too happy about my not eating. Tell the truth, neither is my tummy, but I've been ignoring the messages...at least, so far. Guess it's time to give it something to chew on before it decides to start chewing on me...

Warm wishes and bright blessings

in response to Mimzy...   Hi there Mimzy, you are right helping others should be as natural as loving our kids but unfortunetly it isn't. There are more people just out for themselves, they will help others only if there is something in it for them. I feel so very sorry for thise that can't think above their own selfish needs. You are indeed an inspiration whether you think so or not.....my God woman just read all these posts on aidpage, it is as plain as the nose on your face who is in this to truely help others versus who is here for selfserving reasons only. As far as what day to day items cost, I know exactly what you mean...things like soap, dryer sheets, dish soap and toilet paper and a real luxuery..paper towels and I could go on and on. One of the biggest costs in a house hold of women is the sanitary napkins or tampons and or Midol or Excedrin. I consider those items a necessity but I know places like the food bank doesn't. You said you resuse you juice containers as well as milk containers and I wanted to pas a tip on to you. When I buy milk and can afford it I will buy 2 half gallons of either whole milk or 2% and then I wsh out my milk jugs well....OH! I forgot, I also buy a generic box of powdered milk along with the whole milk. Anyway, I fill each milk jugs half full of cold water and put in about 3+ cups of dry milk and then I put the lid on the jug and shake it like crazy until dry milk is mixed then I pour a 1/2 gallon of whole milk into the same just and gently shake until both milks are mixed and chill overnight if possible. I dare you or anyone slese to tell the difference between the mixed milk and a real 2% milk...you cannot tell the difference and I used this experiment on my grandkids, they still don't know that it's half mix and half milk. Kudos on using the juice bottles for koolaid..koolaid has taken the place of all soda's and a lot of juices. I still buy apple juice for my grandkids but only after I mix it with half koolaid and half juice. I hope all the people here on aidpge wil red this post you wrote because it has some very good ideas for reusing so many things we just put into the trash. OH! by the way Mimzy do you have a paypal account and if so would you mine giving it to me or maybe you have a paypal donate button somewhere, where people can donate a few bucks to you. Anyway, thanks for a fabulous post, you hae given me the energy to continue my giving. lots of love and peace to you my friend. sincerely sheshe030 (Sheila)

in response to sheshe030...   Thanks for the kind words, though I don't know if I have truly earned them. I only do what I feel is right and try to help those that need it. There isn't all that much inspiration in that, or rather there shouldn't be. It should be something that we all do on our path through life.
If we were all on a road, heading in the same direction, it would be a no-brainer to assist those that are on the side in trouble. To help one that has fallen to rise again. It's just a courtesy and common sense to offer help to others. At least, it should be.

Right now, since nearly all cash needs to go towards covering the min. on the utilities. We don't have funds to get the uncounted costs that most agencies don't remember still must be paid for each month. (Shampoo, soaps, trash bags, tp, female monthly items, toothpaste and similar items.)

We've been getting napkins from the various fast food restaurants, saving plastic containers from food to store leftovers in and reusing foil to wrap things or cover containers. Empty juice containers are reused to make koolaid type drinks. Milk jugs can be reused to make powdered and canned milk in. But some things are harder to get than others.

I just hope that more people reach out to others, especially with the holiday season and the harsh realities that are playing out on the Hill...there's going to be a lot of people hurting this month.
Take care and warm wishes...

in response to Mimzy...   Hi Mimzy
I know you are a good researcher like you say you are. You know your way around the computer and help your friends out. I hope you find the way to make $50 more a week as that would help you out.
And you get food soon as I know you don't get food stamps you said the other day till the 6th.
Take care and hugs

in response to Mimzy...   Reply to Mimzy:--God bless you Mimzy, you are such an inspiration to others here on aidpage. I think you are reaching many more people than you realize and I do understand how you feel after helping so many people for so long and in your time of need they all seem to disappear but I haven't heard one word of bitterness from you or blaming of anyone. I believe that a woman with a heart as big as yours that gives without ever a word of regret deserves to be heard and helped by the very people you have given to. I think most people are good and maybe a lot of those that you have helped don't know that you are now in need. Have you gotten the word out that you need assistance now. You need to make sure that all those you came to the aid of now know about your circumstances and you need to say it loud and clear. I'm not going to go through the routine of telling you to go to the sites here on aidpage to find resources because I know you have already looked into them but if you haven't two good sites to look at are Schmidtys and Whoknew's they have more resources than you could ever need or and if you want to assist others you might wnat to suggest them to others. Just what are you needing this moment? What would ease your burden, I got so wrapped into all your doing for others I think I missed your needs. I'm so sorry and I just know that you will get what you need especially because your heart is more into giving than recieving. My best to you dear friend. sincerely sheshe030 (Sheila)

I've broken it down to about $50/week, if I could just make that I could be in a better place bill wise. At least I could pay them and still get tp, soap & such.

Hoping to be in a better frame of mind later. Maybe I just need to try and rethink things a little...work out the details some.
Then again, a nap sounds good for right now too...lol

Stay safe

 in response to Mimzy...   Hello
Laura14 here used weebly.com for her website and you can google.com free websites. I don't know what CSS is or PHP or My SQL is dah..
I know HTML and a few people who have many blogs, websites and I go to bed dreaming of doing more but it doesn't get done. It is a lot of work.
You have to find a way to promote your websites so people see them. I have to place adds for things I have to sale with the pictures as it ran out one of the free classi fieds I use.
Good luck

in response to Misty Creek...   This info is fairly outdated. Geocities tanked, was shut down by Yahoo early this year or late last year. (can't recall)
Blogger is owned by Google and that's not so stable as sites can vanish without warning. I have a few sites here, but it's risky.
Freeservers.com is one I've used a bunch and is still around. But like most free hosting it has ads and then there is limits as to the different scripts that you can run on it.

But thanks for the link anyway.

in response to Starshine...   interesting site. may look into it more later.
Like that I can edit the HTML and CSS myself.
Problem with free hosting is most don't let you run PHP or MySQL
on them. Which makes it hard to make a database driven site.

But it's not bad looking. Although, I wonder if I need another website - I've got so many already.

All about it here above free website.

I get the holiday blues too wanting to be speed demon knocking down my outstanding bills.

Good luck and keep me posted.

in response to Misty Creek...   If you check out my homepage you can see that I've put up a Designer tab and a Writer tab. I've samples there of my creative work.
Thanks for the encouragement...but since there isn't much to eat and the 6th is when the foodstamps come in...think I'll take a nap and dream of things being better. At least, I don't feel hungry when I'm sleeping.

I'm definitely not fit company in this down in the dumps mood.

in response to sheshe030...   I've always done the gifting, as often as I could and when I could. (Not too easy to do it when you're homeless) But it's not something I have done only recently. I've been a part of or done gifting to others since I was in my preteens, then on my own most of my adult life. I've offered my couch or spare room to those with no place to go (when I had it to offer) and I've made food, fed and offered help to those that asked for it. (as long as I have had it to offer)
But often I've found that despite all those that I helped, when I was in need, when it was my family that needed help - it was often difficult to find any help in return. Once again, it came down to being creative and having special friends and family that have been the ones to come to my aide.

I've not been rescued often, it's mostly through hard work that my family has survived. Those that I helped, out of the large number, only a few ever repaid the favor.
But I continue to do what I feel is right, what I need to do. I may not be able to continue much longer, but I'll do what I can.

Take care...

in response to Mimzy...   Believe me I know the feeling. But new people get on that site everyday, just keep posting, someone is going to find you. Maybe even someone who would do the work for you just to get their name out. Don't give up on that, also see if you can find a website that is open chat for other learning about creating websites. I imagine there has to be thousands. One day soon you will get up and everything will be right there in front of you

in response to Starshine...   Have site over at bravenet, still need to figure out what I'm going to do with it, needs to be updated and linked to my homepage.
As for blogspot, I've already got too many blogs - don't need another. What in the world is weebly...anything like twitter?
I've got bits and pieces of myself scattered all over the web.
My issues are mostly figuring out what the heck I should do with all that I know.
I've got the cooking site for the kids, they have a desire for it. But I need to find something for myself that can assist me with reaching my goals.

in response to Misty Creek...   yes, I'm on facebook, myspace and twitter too.
I've my own homepage, working on websites and even writing some.
But still, the financial issues are taking their toll on me.
Stress and bill problems aren't all that beneficial towards creative endeavors.
So far I'm still trying to choose what I'm going to do.
